Over the course of the last few years, I have worked:

- with children and teenagers who have opted and were given the chance to learn Spanish in Barnsley, between the ages of four and sixteen, and who have either been home-educated or in mainstream education

- to devise moderate to intense business language courses which are aimed at employees at a number of companies with bases in Yorkshire

- to provide one-to-one and family tuition (at the clients' homes) in Spanish, German, French and English as a Foreign Language

- to deliver Spanish and German adult night classes and evening courses to learners at further education institutions, such as Tapton School and Park Lane College (usually under agency contracts), all carefully engineered to facilitate highly effective learning

I have discovered that the way in which each strategy is put into practice is influenced by the learning environment and the need to tweak activities which are not only appealing to each individual, but which can essentially be applied to any number of real-life situations.  These would also aim to promote independent learning and self-assessment of the learner's own progress.

With reference to continued professional development, I should now like to become more involved with the invigilation of examinations and the external verification of coursework set by further and adult education colleges.   I am always more than willing to offer my services to any education provider where these are concerned.

In January 2008, I embarked upon an introductory course into neuro-linguistic programming, delivered by the renowned hypnotherapists, Dr. Paul Peace, who lives in Sheffield.  The term refers to how effective communication skills between teachers and students of foreign languages may help to develop in the latter a more positive attitude towards successful language learning.
